Expert Advice Print Version Q. What can I do while I am at home to keep from having back pain? A. You may be instructed in "first aid" pain control measures using heat or ice. Relaxation, breathing, and positioning exercises can help control pain and its accompanying stress. Simply giving your body a rest can help calm low back pain, giving your back time to heal. If you are having pain with an activity or movement, it is a signal of irritation. Try to avoid all movements and activities that increase your pain. You may be given exercises for the joints and muscles above and below the sore area that are used to ease pain, while protecting your back during the initial healing phase. Careful movements suggested by your therapist can safely ease pain by providing nutrition and lubrication in the areas close to the sore area. Print Version |
